Abstract
In this study we analyze the results of an online experiment in which three multiple criteria decision aiding (MCDA) methods were implemented, i.e. direct ranking (DR), AHP and TOPSIS; to solve a problem of selecting a flat to rent. The experiment was followed by the survey, in which the participants answered a series of questions regarding the use, usefulness, efficiency and functionality of these the methods. We investigate what are the reasons for which the decision makers (DMs) choose a particular MCDA method as most useful and representing their preferences most adequately. We analyze how coherent are the rankings generated by the methods they chose with the preferences they had defined holistically before the decision support was offered. We also try to build an exploratory model that would explain why they may choose the methods that do not perform most efficiently in reflecting their preferences.
